Phenomenon Magazine is an experimental art and literature magazine highlighting unique art and how society plays a role in that.
For my sample pages I focused on an article called 'A Golden Age for Dystopian Fiction' by Jill Lepore. I create unique visuals using my own photography, scanned elements, and typography to highlight the uniqueness and absurdity of dystopian fiction. Each spread is unique but stays true to a strong grid structure, color pallet, and image-making.
I wanted to highlight the buildup of this article. I also experimented with a clean consistent three column grid that broke with bigger call out quotes and highlighted words or phrases. This expirement with type was also reflected in my front and back cover that showed different type treatments that happen in my booklet like stacking, repeating textures, and large letters.
